How Does the Rebate Work?

Eligible customers may receive a rebate following project completion, payment, and approval by the VEU program. Accent Windows will facilitate the application process on the customer's behalf.

A few things worth knowing:
  • The rebate is not applied at the point of sale. Customers pay for the project in full, and the rebate is processed after completion and VEU program approval.
  • The rebate applies only to approved products listed on the VEU register.
  • The value of any rebate, if approved, would depend on the product, glazing area measured on-site, and individual project circumstances.
  • Retrospective claims for eligible upgrades completed in 2026 may still be available, subject to program deadlines. Contact us to check your situation.

Who Is Eligible for a VEU Window and Door Rebate in Melbourne?

Support under the VEU program may be available to a broad range of property types and owners. The key requirement is that your existing windows or glass doors are single-glazed and you are replacing them with a VEU-registered product installed by an accredited provider.
You may qualify if:
  • You are a Victorian homeowner with existing single-glazed windows
  • You are a landlord upgrading a rental property (tenants or landlords may be eligible; rebate only available once)
  • You are a business owner with single-glazed commercial premises
  • You are replacing existing glazing with a product on the VEU-approved register
  • You completed an eligible upgrade in 2026 and have not yet claimed
What is generally not covered:
  • Windows and Doors at properties that already have double glazing installed
  • New builds (the program covers replacement of existing single-glazed windows or doors, not new installations)
  • Products not listed on the VEU-approved register
  • Replacing a solid timber or opaque door with a glazed door, as there must be existing glazing to upgrade
  • Installations carried out and processed by a non-accredited provider.

What Does Double Glazing Actually Do for Your Home?

VEU support or not, the upgrade earns its place. Two panes instead of one change how a house behaves through a Melbourne winter and a Melbourne summer, and those changes do not expire with a government program.

Thermal comfort

An insulated glass unit is two panes with a sealed cavity between them. That cavity is the point. Heat moving out through the glass in July, or pushing in through it in January, has to cross it, and that slows the transfer considerably.
Where you notice it is in the rooms nobody wants to sit in. The lounge with the big west-facing window that becomes unusable by three in the afternoon through February. The back bedroom that runs cold from about four. Those spaces hold their temperature longer, so the heating and cooling is not fighting the windows the whole time it runs.

Condensation reduction

Cold glass from the outside, with warm damp air from inside, and you get condensation on your glass windows and doors. Single-glazed panes drop close to the outside temperature overnight, so the moisture in your kitchen and bathroom air finds them and settles on the sill.
Over time, these damp sills invite mould growth, triggering a maintenance job that keeps coming back. Double glazing holds the inner pane much nearer to room temperature, so there is far less cold surface for that moisture to settle on, and the problem is reduced under most conditions. Good compression seals also help with reducing condensation in residential homes.

Acoustic performance

Noise travels as vibration through the glass, and two panes with a gap between them break up that path in a way a single sheet cannot. A house on a main road, near a tram line, or under the flight path carries a constant background hum most people stop consciously hearing and never stop being affected by.
Matching panes resonate together. Asymmetric glazing, a 6mm outer against a 4mm inner, or an acoustic laminate, performs better across the frequencies traffic actually produces. Performance is expressed as an Rw rating. If noise is the main reason you are upgrading, let us know, and we will customise your installation accordingly.

Energy efficiency

Windows are the weak point in most Australian homes, especially the old ones. Insulated walls, insulated ceiling, then a sheet of single-glazed glass letting heat walk straight out. Double glazing narrows that gap, and the heating cycles less because it is not replacing heat as fast as it loses it.
Orientation changes the glass specification as well. North and west elevations take the summer load, so a low-E coating with a lower SHGC does the work there. South-facing glass often wants heat gain retained rather than blocked. Specifying one glass type across a whole house is the most common thing we correct on site.
