Our Glass Guide

Introduction

Our Area Managers work with each customer to recommend the most suitable glazing solution based on the home’s orientation, energy efficiency requirements, thermal performance, acoustic needs, safety, privacy, bushfire requirements (where applicable), aesthetics and budget.

Every window and door Accent Windows installs starts with a decision most homeowners never think about: the glass. This guide explains, in plain language, the glass options we work with most often – so you can have an informed conversation with your Area Manager when you’re planning your project, not just pick a frame colour.

Our Glass Partners

Viridian Glass is Australia’s largest glass processor, with over 170 years of local manufacturing heritage and is Accent Windows’ preferred glass partner. We work closely with them across many of our projects.

Beyond Viridian Glass, we also source quality glazing from other trusted Australian manufacturers depending on what a project needs. Whichever manufacturer supplies the glass, every product we install complies with the relevant Australian Standards, including AS 1288 for glass in buildings and, where fitted, AS/NZS 4666 for insulated glass units.

Accent Windows is also a long-standing, accredited member of the Australian Glass & Window Association (AGWA), the peak industry body for the glass and window sector i`n Australia. AGWA membership means Accent has agreed to abide by the AGWA Constitution and Code of Ethics, and it’s independently verifiable: Accent’s membership can be checked directly with AGWA, which is a stronger trust signal for customers and for search engines than an unverifiable claim.

Glass Options We Install

LightBridge™ - Double Glazing

LightBridge™ is Viridian’s residential double-glazing range, built to balance high natural light transmission with strong thermal insulation. It’s designed for fully framed windows and doors in homes and low-rise apartments – exactly the applications Accent specialises in.

– Achieves U-Values as low as 1.40 (4+12+4mm Clear configuration) – a strong insulation result for a residential glazing product.

– Balances high light transmission (up to 80% VLT in the clear option) with everyday solar control.

Best for: A common recommendation across Accent’s window range and most door products – always confirmed against your project’s orientation and goals with your Area Manager.

VLam™ - Laminated Safety Glass

VLam™ is Viridian’s core laminated glass range – two or more sheets of glass bonded with an interlayer so that, if the glass breaks, it stays adhered rather than shattering. It’s the baseline safety glass specified anywhere Australian Standards require it.

– Certified Grade A safety glazing material, required in doors, low-level windows, balustrades and other high-risk locations.

– Available in multiple interlayer thicknesses for increased resistance to physical impact.

Best for: Sliding, bifold, stacker, pivot and French doors; verandah enclosures; any glazing near floor level.

VLam™ Hush - Acoustic Laminated Glass

VLam™ Hush uses a specially engineered interlayer to dampen the vibrations associated with noise – voices, traffic, trains and aircraft – allowing thinner, lighter glass to match the acoustic performance of a much thicker standard laminate.

– 6.5mm VLam™ Hush matches the acoustic performance of 10.38mm standard laminated glass.

– Reduces UV radiation by 99%, protecting interiors from fading as a secondary benefit.

– Most effective as part of a complete sealed system – window and door frames need to be well sealed too, or noise will leak around the glass.

Best for: Homes on busy roads, near train lines, or under flight paths; bedroom and living area windows.

VTough™ - Toughened Safety Glass

VTough™ is Viridian’s toughened (tempered) glass – heat-treated to be significantly stronger than standard float glass, and designed to break into small, less hazardous granules rather than sharp shards if it does break.

– The standard safety specification for high-pressure or high-movement applications like louvre blades and servery windows.

– Locally manufactured, supporting consistent quality and lead times.

Best for: Louvre windows, kitchen servery windows, and other openings where the glass is regularly in motion or under load.

Viridian ClimaTech™ - Entry-Level Double Glazing

ClimaTech™ is Viridian’s entry-level double-glazing option, giving budget-conscious homeowners a genuine path into double glazing rather than a straight choice between single glazing and a higher-performance IGU.

– Provides the fundamental thermal benefit of an insulated glass unit at a more accessible price point than LightBridge™.

– A practical starting point for homeowners renovating in stages, who plan to upgrade further down the track.

Best for: Budget double-glazed window and door quotes, and as a genuine entry option in any glazing comparison Accent presents to customers.

DécorSatin™ - Decorative & Privacy Glass

DécorSatin™ is a frosted, satin-etched glass finish applied to a safety-toughened or laminated base, used where a homeowner wants privacy without losing natural light.

– Diffuses light rather than blocking it, keeping a room bright while obscuring a direct view through the glass.

– Available on a safety-toughened or laminated base, so it still meets the relevant Australian Standard for the location it’s installed.

Best for: Entry door sidelights, bathroom or ensuite sash and louvre windows, and any feature panel needing privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Accent only use Viridian glass?

Viridian is our preferred glass partner, and we work closely with them across many projects. We also source quality glazing from other trusted Australian manufacturers where a project calls for it. Whichever manufacturer supplies the glass, it always complies with the relevant Australian Standards. Your Area Manager will recommend the glazing that best fits your specific home and needs.

What does “U-Value” mean?

U-Value measures how much heat passes through the glass – the lower the number, the better the glass insulates. LightBridge™, for example, can achieve a U-Value as low as 1.40, which is a strong result for a residential window.

What's the difference between laminated and toughened glass?

Laminated glass (like VLam™) is two or more layers bonded with an interlayer, so it stays in place if it breaks – it’s the standard safety choice for doors and low-level glazing. Toughened glass (like VTough™) is heat-treated to be stronger and breaks into small, blunt granules rather than shards – it’s typically used where glass is moving or under repeated load, like louvre blades.

Do I need double glazing in Melbourne?

Not every window needs it, but double glazing (such as LightBridge™ or the more accessible Viridian ClimaTech™) makes a measurable difference to comfort and energy bills, particularly on larger windows and doors and north/west-facing rooms. Your Area Manager can help you weigh this up against your budget and the rest of your home’s energy plan.

How does Accent decide which glass to recommend?

Our Area Managers work with each customer to recommend the most suitable glazing solution based on the home’s orientation, energy efficiency requirements, thermal performance, acoustic needs, safety, privacy, bushfire requirements (where applicable), aesthetics and budget – it’s a project-by-project conversation, not a fixed, one-size-fits-all specification.
