Victorian Energy Upgrades Rebate for Double-Glazed Windows and Doors in Melbourne

Accent Windows is a VEU-accredited installer. Find out if your home may qualify for support under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

What Is the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program?

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program is a state government initiative designed to help Victorian households and businesses improve energy efficiency by upgrading to approved, higher-performing products. Window and glass door glazing is one of the key upgrade categories included under the program.

If your home or business currently has single-glazed windows or glass doors, you may be eligible for support when replacing them with approved double-glazed products. Eligibility is assessed under the relevant VEU program guidelines and varies depending on the product, property type, and scope of works.

Accent Windows is authorised to apply for the VEU rebate on your behalf. We can assess your property and support you through the process, from your initial eligibility check through to installation, application and payment into your bank account.

The VEU program runs until 2045. Eligible products and program guidelines can change, so it is worth reviewing your options sooner rather than later.

Common Glazing Sizes in Melbourne Homes

The glazing area of the windows or glass doors being replaced is one of the factors used in assessing rebate value under the VEU program. The tables below show common single-glazed window and door sizes found in Melbourne residential properties.

Your Accent Windows consultant will measure your glazing on-site as part of the eligibility assessment.

Note: Actual rebate value will depend on the specific approved product, glazing area measured on-site, and individual project circumstances. These figures are indicative only. Contact Accent Windows for a free measure and assessment.

What Does Double Glazing Actually Do for Your Home?

VEU support or not, the upgrade earns its place. Two panes instead of one change how a house behaves through a Melbourne winter and a Melbourne summer, and those changes do not expire with a government program.

Thermal comfort

An insulated glass unit is two panes with a sealed cavity between them. That cavity is the point. Heat moving out through the glass in July, or pushing in through it in January, has to cross it, and that slows the transfer considerably.
Where you notice it is in the rooms nobody wants to sit in. The lounge with the big west-facing window that becomes unusable by three in the afternoon through February. The back bedroom that runs cold from about four. Those spaces hold their temperature longer, so the heating and cooling is not fighting the windows the whole time it runs.

Condensation reduction

Cold glass from the outside, with warm damp air from inside, and you get condensation on your glass windows and doors. Single-glazed panes drop close to the outside temperature overnight, so the moisture in your kitchen and bathroom air finds them and settles on the sill.
Over time, these damp sills invite mould growth, triggering a maintenance job that keeps coming back. Double glazing holds the inner pane much nearer to room temperature, so there is far less cold surface for that moisture to settle on, and the problem is reduced under most conditions. Good compression seals also help with reducing condensation in residential homes.

Acoustic performance

Noise travels as vibration through the glass, and two panes with a gap between them break up that path in a way a single sheet cannot. A house on a main road, near a tram line, or under the flight path carries a constant background hum most people stop consciously hearing and never stop being affected by.
Matching panes resonate together. Asymmetric glazing, a 6mm outer against a 4mm inner, or an acoustic laminate, performs better across the frequencies traffic actually produces. Performance is expressed as an Rw rating. If noise is the main reason you are upgrading, let us know, and we will customise your installation accordingly.

Energy efficiency

Windows are the weak point in most Australian homes, especially the old ones. Insulated walls, insulated ceiling, then a sheet of single-glazed glass letting heat walk straight out. Double glazing narrows that gap, and the heating cycles less because it is not replacing heat as fast as it loses it.
Orientation changes the glass specification as well. North and west elevations take the summer load, so a low-E coating with a lower SHGC does the work there. South-facing glass often wants heat gain retained rather than blocked. Specifying one glass type across a whole house is the most common thing we correct on site.
Every unit is manufactured at our Bayswater North factory and installed by our own teams, glazed to AS 1288 and tested to AS 2047. With our free measure and quote process, each item is itemised rather than a single lump figure.

Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS)

All Accent Windows double-glazed products can be specified with a WERS rating, which independently verifies the thermal and energy performance of the glazing unit. Your Area Manager can advise on which rating suits your home’s orientation and energy goals.
These benefits apply regardless of the VEU program outcome and continue delivering value for the life of the installation.

Why Choose Accent Windows for Your VEU Upgrade?

Accreditation matters. Not every installer in Melbourne accesses the VEU program. Only accredited providers can submit an application on your behalf, and only approved products are eligible under the scheme.
